I read an interesting article recently that stated -

Teaching ranked among the top 3 professions for...
--high stress
--skipped meals
--time restraints
--weight gain

I taught (K-12) and worked as a Dean of Discipline in several public school systems over a span of nearly 30 years.

I count it a privilege to have had the opportunity!

Throughout those years there seemed to be two questions that were with me each day in the back of my mind. The first was at the very end of the day…

“What am I going to have for lunch tomorrow?”

I would pack a great tasting lunch and as the hours at work rolled by I could almost taste my little feast and then the second question would pop into my head like a big sign as I stared at the neatly packed bag....

"Will I have time for lunch!"

This may sound small concern but it is important to eat.

Wouldn't you agree?

Lunch, the only meal during the work day...is crucial, but time was not always on my side?

I needed energy to work with my students and that's not including hall duty, lunch duty, covering classes and the students that were sent to my office...

There were times when I wanted to use my prep to put a few final touches on a lesson or run off a new follow-up sheet I located at the last minute.

That time was not always promised.

As it disappeared from my day, I would have to use my lunch time to prep!

Prep time was not always the same. In elementary school, my prep was only when the children went to physical education, art, or music usually one activity one 1-hour per week. No break if this was cancelled...maybe next week!

If I had hoped to run off that extra work, it had to be done during my lunch time.

In high school, I had a prep period everyday...which was awesome (a teacher's dream come true), unless you were called to cover a class. And let's not forget the planned and unplanned fire drills.

I was also a Dean of Discipline and during my office time it was non-stop conflict resolution, counseling, loads of paper work and maybe an urgent parent conference! That second question would creep up...

"...Will I have time for lunch?..."

The end result was the same poor eating habits and time restraints or no time for lunch at all.

'Wolfing down' a few bites of a sandwich while at the copy machine...was not considered a healthy habit..

I also dropped the nasty habit of smoking and guess what happened?

I gained some unwanted pounds. My favorite pair of jeans no longer fit. Just the thought of the expense of new cloths was out of the question. I had to make some changes.

With all that going on, as a teacher and disciplinarian maintaining a healthy weight was at the top of my list.

I knew there is no "magic dust".
So I had to change my diet and my lifestyle.

I needed a plan and found a simple easy-to-follow program that was perfect for me.

It allowed me to have a healthy tasty lunch even when there was little or no time. It is designed to help anyone with a desire to reach a healthy weight goal. And most important maintain your new look.

With a few basic principles and simple steps I am very proud to say, I've been able to maintain a healthy weight for many years.
